SPD - December Project Pea Blog Hop!

Back again with another SugarPea Designs idea.  I wanted to try using my stamps to create a thank you gift this month, so I made a box of cards using the SugarCuts Gift Tag die, the Layered Treat Labels set and Have an ICE Day stamp set.  Here's the finished project. . .

I started by making a pizza box to fit the 3.5" x 4.75" cards I made.  Pizza boxes are pretty simple to figure the dimensions out for - just remember to consider your envelopes as you measure. (I had to go back and edit the photo because the envelopes were a little bigger than my demonstration box.)

My box size is: 4 x 5.25 x 1.

The paper size 11 x 7.25
One the 11" side, I scored the paper at 1", 5", 6", 10"
On the 7" side, score the paper at 1" and 6.25"

Cut on the cut lines as marked.

Here's the patterned paper scored, with Score Tape on the tabs, and ready to fold.

The box folded and the inside view.  The edge is punched with a 1.25" circle punch

And now onto the cards . . . I used the circles from the Layered Treat Labels stamp set to create overlapping circles and finished with the sentiment and snowflakes from Have an ICE Day.  I made two versions of the card - one on blue paper with white embossing powder and the other on white paper with Soft Suede and Marina Mist ink.

The tag was cut from white and distressed along the sides with Antique Linen Distress Ink.  I used scraps from the patterned paper box to cut stars and the words to and from and then added some enamel dots.

A LIGHT BULB Moment!!

Today's post is inspired by two other card makers.  Back in November, fellow SugarPea Teamie, Lisa Lara, gave me a giggle and knocked my socks off when she used SugarPea Designs Layered Treat Labels to create these adorable light bulb tags.  I was awed by her creativity and her ability to think outside of the box.  At the idea of a light bulb, all I could hear in my head was Gru's voice (from the Despicable Me! movies) saying, "Light Bulb!" - which is what sent me into giggles.  I filed the idea away in my cluttered brain until today. . . when I was playing along with this week's Featured Stamper Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  Natalie Dever is the honoree, and her card, Light Magical, caught my eye.

I used Lisa's idea of creating the light bulb and grabbed my Copics to add some shading in the bulb and at the base.  Planning to use the sentiment from Have An ICE Day, I decided to create a lightbulb filament by just inking up two small parts from the penguin stamp.  I used the tip of his fishing pole for the straight part and the small oval between the fish's hole and the tree to create the other part!  I was proud of myself!!  After plenty of fun using these in a conventional way, it's super exciting to think about stretching stamps in a whole different way!  Thanks for the inspiration Lisa and Natalie.

It's good to be back after some time off for Christmas.  I hope you had a wonderful holiday. . .

Bunny Zoe is sponsoring our newest sketch - and you will see the Sketch Saturday DT had a variety of takes on Deb's creation.  My card is using a sweet Sugar Nellie digi image called, On the Wings of Love.  I just love the look of these little sweeties.  It was fun to put away the Christmas colors and images and start to think of using some new combinations.  This was meant to be my practice image, but she turned out great so I just used her!

Next week is our first sketch of 2015 - I hope you will be back to play with us!

SugarPea Designs December Challenge Theme - Anything Goes!

Gotta love an anything goes challenge and SugarPea has one for you this month!   

I decided to keep my card simple and get ready for some of the thank you cards I will be writing after Christmas.  I dug out some watercolor paper and just played around with dropping splots of color on the wet paper.  After the paper was dry,  I stamped the three trees from the Merry Christmoose stamp set and then doodled in some more color.  At this point, I almost trashed the idea and thought about starting again with my Copics - but I hung in there!  I cut out the window using the Gift Tag Sugar Cuts Die.  The sentiment and doodles are done by hand and my ScorePal was used for the horizontal lines inside the doodle.

Using the tag die to cut the window was fairly simple.

Here are the steps I used:

 STEP 1:
•Mark how big you want the square to be on the edges of the die.
•Tape the die where you want the window on the paper.

STEP 2:
•Move the die so the marks you made are lined up with the end of the plate. Your die and paper will hang off of the platform - which is what you want so it doesn't cut the paper.

After you make the first cut, your window will look like this!
One more cut left . . .




STEP 3:
•To cut the fourth side, turn your die around and place the rounded corner side on the uncut edge of the square.
•Line up the side edges in the grooves of the die.
    •Tape it down.


Tip:
•Only run this last side through the machine and then back it out.  I just do mine to the point where I hear it cut and not any farther.  That way I don't have to worry about how exact I lined up the sides of the die with the already cut square.




This is a great way to get  more options out of one die!  To be honest, I am more in love with the idea of the card than this actual card.  I think I will be playing around a little more with using a simple window and a few of the "extra" stamps to create some quick thank you cards.  Hmmmm - how about a window with heat embossed snowflakes and a watercolor wash over them?!?  So many ideas and so little time (right now!!).

Happy Saturday, Sketchers!  So glad you're back for #340!  

I manipulated Deb's sketch to accommodate the Memory Box ornament die I used as my card's focal point.  I used the back side of a poinsettia embossing folder for the olive paper and used the back side and put glitter in the recesses of the flowers.  I'm happy with the CAS look of the card.  The other DT gals have great things to share with you on the Sketch Saturday blog.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               This week's challenge will be a two-week challenge so the DT can take some time off to celebrate the Christmas holidays.  We'll see you back on December 27th.                                                                                                                                                  

SugarPea Designs - December Sweet 2 Repeat Blog Hop

Somewhere along the way, I had an idea about trying to turn the moose from the Merry Christmoose stamp set into Rudolph!  I masked the nostrils and thought I would use a button, but my messy desk had some pompon garland that made a fluffy Rudolph nose!  His plea to Santa was generated with my computer.

I used some of the stamps from the set to create the red on the Christmas tree patterned paper.  The snowflakes on the kraft are stamped in white ink and the sentiment is partially from Have An Ice Day and the Christmoose set.

I used CAS(E) This Sketch #103 to design my card.
