Color Me Creative Challenge # 91- Birthday

i Copic is the sponsor of the Birthday challenge at Color Me Creative.  One of Christy Croll's Tiddly Inks images, called Celebrate Joyfully is the subject of my card.  Don't you love those feet?!?!  Each time I work on coloring clothing, I realize I need more practice!  It takes a while to orient my eye to where the shading and highlights will fall.  There are usually 5 images that go in the garbage as I refine my coloring.  This girl was no exception - and her skirt was fairly simple! I did mess around with a new color combination for her hair - and like how it turned out.  Thanks go to Freshly Made Sketches for the card sketch.

Color Me Creative Challenge #87 - Anything Goes

Marker POP! is sponsoring the anything goes challenge for the next two weeks at Color Me Creative.  I used a Tiddly Inks image you can find at Marker POP! called, "Flutterby to Say Hi" as my mail focal point.  The sentiment is pieced together from a PTI Valentine set and a Sassy Cheryl set.

I concentrated on the hair (again).  I love experimenting with colors and tried a color combination that my blogging friend, Marilyn used for her ADU girl, YR24, 21, E37, 35.  It's fun to see how different our two girls look, just based on the amount of each color we apply.  I also used the image to guide my coloring of folds in the dress. The first time I colored this girl, the dress didn't have folds - next time, the back fold will be a bit smaller.  A great sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches pulled the whole card together!

Sketch Saturday - Sketch #281

Back again with another great sketch for you from Sketch Saturday.  This week our sponsor is Sassy Studio Designs.

I had a little help from a friend with this card.  I received this image several weeks ago from Kristy Kroll over at Tiddly Inks.  (By the way, she is available for just $1.00). I knew I would use her for a card around Halloween  Then viola, Trisha S., my friend and fellow DT member at the Sister Act Blog used the same witch!  I hadn't thought of adding shadows to create ripples in the skirt and haven't had much practice with it.  Luckily, the power of the internet came through for me again!  I printed Trisha's witch and used it as a tutorial for my own card. Many thanks to Trisha and her excellent coloring skills.  I love how this came out, including that fun red hair!

Color Me Creative Challenge - Anything Goes!

It's an anything goes challenge at Color Me Creative (CMC).  No limits, no boundaries - a free and easy challenge - much like the Wryn Hanging Around digi from Tiddly Inks.  I'm using her as a B-day card for a friend who is one year shy of 60!

I'm not trained in art at all (not even an art class in elementary school).  I've taken a Copic class online, attended Copic Certification two summers ago. I've tried to relax and give myself permission to learn, practice and develop my skills. It's helped by concentrating on one thing at a time in my Copic coloring.  Hair has been my most recent focus.  I thought I had it down - until I came across this girl!  I am really happy with the end result because I was able to give her hair the movement I was going for.  Let me tell you that it took a while to get there!

Here's a close up of the final version.

But she started out looking like the girl to the right.   I didn't like the color and because there wasn't much variation in her hair color, the movement I was trying to achieve was missing.  (The photo looks better than she does IRL.)

Then, I got out my pencil and tried to
think more strategically about light and shading and where the sun would reflect
on Wryn's hair.  After I put the pencil in, I got out my markers and just messed around.

I still wasn't happy, so at that point, I went to my favorite tutorial spot "Google - images" - and typed in the name of the digi and looked at what other people had done. This allowed me to really study ideas for Wryn's hair.  I found a card that Amy H. posted on her blog.  From her work, I used a new image to pencil in the shading I saw on Amy's card.

Then I got out my markers and tried again.  This time was a lot closer! Woo!  Some of the shading needed to be adjusted.  I was in the ballpark and gave it another try. . .

. . .  and here she is!  So for those of you who are working on your coloring, hang in there - and keep practicing.  I actually love to play around like I did here.  It's so satisfying to have an idea in my mind and be able to get it on the page.

I hope you will find an image to color and play along with us at Color Me Creative.  The anything goes challenge runs through August 30th - that's two weeks! Check out the DT inspiration and join us.  Our sponsor is MarkerPOP
