August Guest Designer - Stempelgarten

I was asked to be a Guest DT member for Stempelgarten's newest challenge,  Summertime.  I am thrilled to share A Random Fan's Lifesaver image with you.  You can find it in the Stempelgarten shop HERE.  I created the sand and water background with my Copics.  The sky is created by blending Distress inks.  My sentiment is pulled together from a combination of stamp companies.

A Day for Daisies Challenge #129 - Add Some Plaid!

The A Day for Daisies DT is back with some more veggies this week.  My card uses the stamp Fancy Corn from the Veggie Lover Collection.  I decided to make my card and corn an homage to fall, rather than represent the yummy yellow corn that we have been enjoying this summer in MN.  I love how it turned out.  I haven't colored many veggies for cards; I've thoroughly enjoyed challenging myself these past two weeks.  As a matter of fact, the Fancy Carrots digi I used for last week's showcase card is on sale for 50% off in the ADFD shop.

Our new challenge on the ADFD blog is to Add Some Plaid.  I didn't realize how much of a challenge that would actually be until I looked through my HUGE stash of paper and realized I barely had three plaid patterns!  I found this plaid in a 6x6 pack of boy papers, but I think it works on this card.  (Now if it had been a polka dot challenge, I could have gone crazy!!)

A Day for Daisies - August Release

It's time for our August Release at A Day for Daisies!  You will love the new images - a combination of mermaids and some new beauties. Coloring this image, Chubby Mermaid One, stretched my coloring skills - especially the hair. I had to create my own lines of movement,  It was so much fun working on her tail that I added water, sand, and an island to create a scene to surround her. Check out the variety of images the DT has used on the ADFD blog, and join us with one of the free images or treat yourself to a new purchase from the ADFD shop!

SugarPea Designs February Challenge - Shaker Cards

SugarPea Designs' February theme challenge is to create a Shaker Card.  Who doesn't love a shaker card?!?

I tried to think a little differently about my shaker.  I had the Notched Heart Journal Die Cut sitting on my desk and in my quest to use my supplies, I decided to use it as my shaker.  I made it using some tiny seed beads. Rather than have my shaker sitting on the front of the card, I die cut the outer shape on the card front and taped the shaker inside the card.

My stamps are from the set Happy Mail; I attached the mailbox and the sentiment flag to the card front, so it overlaps the shaker until the card is opened.  The downside is there isn't much room to write on the inside, but the whole card back is available!!  I know if my teamie Lisa created this, the inside would be decorated, too!  Love her - and one day I will get there!

Southern Girls Challenge - Winged Things (Team Lou)

This is my last time posting as part of the Southern Girls DT.  I have enjoyed being part of the group for the past six months and connecting with ladies from Alaska to "Down Under"!  I know I will stay connected by entering their challenges in the future.  You're in for a treat with the new DT members and the upcoming challenges!

How appropriate that Aurora Wings is one of the sponsors for our Winged Things Challenge!  Their images are so unique and always stretch my coloring skills - which I love!   This dainty beauty is called Fairy Dancer.  It took me back to my days dreaming of being a ballerina when I was a little girl.
I've had this bg paper sitting around for quite some time (years) and it was perfect for this image.  The movement in the pattern and the soft colors just called to me.

The fairy oval and the colored die cut from are inlaid into the card front.  I love to inlay my die cuts. It's pretty simple to create the "Outside the Box" look.  I just position my die and lightly mark the spots that will extend beyond the die cut.  I trim those pieces (eventually fussy cutting them) and slide the die under all of the spots that will extend beyond the border.  Because they sit on top of the die when I run it through my CB, they don't get cut.


I wanted to keep my Copics on the softer side, so the colors I used for her tutu are R000, 11, 20, 22.
Her wings are layers of BG0000 and 000.
Skin colors:  E00, 21, 11
Hair:  E41, 50, 53 and Y21
Shading: C00, C0 & C1 in the deeper shadows
Wink of Stella is used on the wings to give them a little shimmer.

SPD February Sweet 2 Repeat Blog Hop . . . It's Fairy Sweet!

It's time again for our Sweet 2 Repeat Blog Hop! Our Pod Squad of designers are geared up to inspire you with even MORE creative possibilities featuring the newest SugarPea Designs stamps and dies from the January 2015 release. 

















I had so much fun using my envelope punch board (epb)for the January Project Pea Hop, I brought it out again for this one.  UK blogger, Pootles (Sam Hammond Donald) has so many adorable epb projects and a YouTube channel to show how to make her clever creations! Here's her video of how to make the "bag in a box".  

I love the Fairy Sweet Stamp Set and have been thinking of a zillion ways to use it!  It's a fun stamp to use to adorn my "bag in a box"!  If you follow my blog, you'll know I always color more than one image to use for practice and experimentation. I started coloring the hair of this fairy for the card I made here, so I just finished her up and fussy cut* her to pop out on the box.  I gave her a haircut to look like a bob and colored what are meant to be long, flowing curls to look like cascading ribbons from her head piece.  I then created a little card to go along using other stamps from the Fairy Sweet set and the heart strip from the Build A Background Stamp Set from the new Sweet Incentive Program.  The set can be yours before it's available to purchase in the March release!

*Can you spot the place I forgot to finish cutting?!?!  I didn't notice until I was writing the blog post.  Oops!

SugarPea Designs - Sugar Sketch #19

We have another great Sugar Sketch for you today.  I love sketches challenges and let the sketch "speak to me" when deciding on which SugarPea products to use.

With Valentines Day coming up and grandchildren losing teeth almost monthly, the Fairy Sweet stamp was my choice.  I'm not sure which occasion I'll use it for.  I pulled out the SugarCuts Notched Heart Journal Card die and inset it and the Tooth Fairy circle die cut into the background paper.

Do you see the zigzag behind the image and Heart Journal Card die cut?  I made it using the 2 cuts from the Heart Border die (and used some of the leftover hearts for my card)!  Here's a picture of how I figured it out.  One of the hearts from the Heart Journal Card die, some glitter glue, and a two enamel dots finished off the card.
