Sketch Saturday - Sketch #318

Deb designed the fun sketch for this week.  There are so many possibilities for it!  I decided to just die cut and not color.  As I planned the card in my head, I thought it would be a little simpler than it turned out.  I finally got the white panel right after three tries:  the first time, I was so focused on inset die cutting the word "happy", I didn't think about the flags; the second try, I made the white panel too small and forgot to stamp "birthday" before I embossed; the third time, all of that went smoothly, but after glueing it to the blue, there was too much white below the sentiment.  I was not starting again; hence the little strip of red paper to break up the white!

As I was going through my button stash while making this card today, I wondered if card-making is just a legitimate way to be a hoarder?!?!  I have JARS of buttons from when they were the trend and still carefully consider whether I should use particular buttons in case I need them in the future!  Like I am going to miss a button from the collection of my jars!!

Enough of that!  Stop by Sketch Saturday and see what the DT has created.  Simon Says Stamp! is this week's generous sponsor of a $25 gift certificate to their store.

  4. I think you've stumbled on the secret horror of all stampers: we are indeed hoarders! LOL! But just think if you didn't have that big stash of buttons they never would have found their way onto your adorable card! Thanks for joining us at colourQ!

  8. I laughed out loud at your description of your missteps in making this card. Sometimes I am in awe of just how many ways there are to mess up a card!! However, I really like the little red strip of paper -it's perfect! And the yellow button finishes off your trio of 3 buttons - perfect again!

  10. I love your card! So bright and cheery with all the fabulous colors with that inlaid die cut. :D I had to giggle when I read your little diddy about your button stash. I have one too, but at least you are using yours. lol I have about 15+ jars and not many of my cards have buttons on them. I do believe that being a Crafter gives you that opportunity to be a hoarder. lol You never know if you will need it later. right?

  13. This is fabulous Cathy and congrats on your new DT post! I have to admit I do the same thing with my buttons as well. I have hoards of them, but will only select certain ones for very special cards - same with my fancy brads! Surely if we just use them, it's a good excuse to buy more LOL
